With more than 400,000 people projected to welcome 2019 on the Las Vegas Strip, Sin City easily throws one of the biggest New Year’s Eve celebrations in the nation. Nearly six miles of the Strip will be closed to traffic so partiers can flood Las Vegas Blvd as the countdown to a brand-new year begins. The massive Las Vegas New Year’s Eve party is topped off with a remarkable firework show, signifying the end of great 2018. If your New Year’s Eve plans include a street party with 400,000 of your closest friends, be sure to prepare ahead of time:

  • The Metro Police Dept. will be closing the streets around 5 p.m. on the December 31st, so arrive early to avoid a traffic nightmare.
  • As much as you want to show off your finest nighttime attire, be sure to layer up because it does get chilly. Bundle up so you can focus on having a good time instead of shivering all night.
  • Buildings have to be mindful of their capacity so if you’re hoping to hang out on a specific property, be sure to get in the doors before it gets too full.

New Year’s Eve Las Vegas Shows

If you’re still not sure where to go for New Year’s Eve, let the music guide you! Everyone wants to be part of Las Vegas for the new year, and that includes all your favorite bands and musicians. What better way to celebrate than with a great concert just before the clock strikes 12:00? At Mandalay Bay Events Center, you’ll find Maroon 5 rocking 2018 away on December 30th and 31st at 8:00 p.m.

Lady Gaga will make her appearance at the Park Theater December 28th, 30th, and 31st. Gwen Stefani will be going B-A-N-A-N-A-S inside Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood all NYE weekend while Bruno Mars holds down the T-Mobile Arena on December 30th and 31st at 8:00 p.m. You can also find local darlings, Imagine Dragons, at the Cosmopolitan on December 31st at 9:30 p.m. or watch another homegrown Vegas band, Adelitas Way with Mike Xavier, open up for Living Colour at the Brooklyn Bowl located at The Linq Promenade.

Las Vegas New Year’s Eve Fireworks

Because the Strip is located in the center of the valley, almost anywhere is a good place to view the fireworks display. However, if you’re hoping to get some seriously breathtaking views, there are some places that outstand the others. At 550 feet above the Las Vegas Strip and with 360-degree views of the Valley, watching the fireworks from the High Roller located at The Linq will be an experience you will never forget. The SkyFall Lounge at Delano or the Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay offer floor-to-ceiling windows and viewing decks from the 64th floor. Being at the very south end of the Strip, you won’t miss a thing from these venues.

If you prefer a classic, Old Vegas vibe for New Year’s Eve, you can head Downtown for a more unconventional view of the fireworks. When you look up, you won’t see the night sky but instead the gigantic Fremont Experience screen, which will display a live broadcast of the firework show happening on the Strip. While it will still be packed with people, Downtown has hundreds of options for local restaurants that are easier to walk to than most restaurants on the Strip.

Las Vegas New Year’s Eve Parties at Nightclubs

If you envision starting off 2019 dancing the night away to some of the world’s most well-known DJs while drinking your favorite cocktail, then you’re in luck because, surprise, Vegas is the king of nightclubs – especially on NYE. Even if going clubbing isn’t the norm for you, sometimes it’s fun to break away from your usual on this occasion when the clubs throw the best Las Vegas New Year’s Eve parties. Be sure to do your research and book your tickets early so you can score your spot on the dance floor before the tickets sell out. Some nightclubs might have a cover charge as opposed to a ticket entry, so be prepared.

The sheer number of nightclubs in Las Vegas can be overwhelming, so if you’re not sure where to start, here are some ideas to get you started with a range of performers to choose from:

Any nightclub you chose will have a strict dress code, so use this as the perfect excuse to dress up while ringing in the New Year!
